Revelation 1 v1-8

The start of Revelation! v1-8

The big idea: An intro and Gods character

So, Revelation is written by John, about a vision God gave him. It's also a teaching about the future, as well as the past and present. But it's a revelation of who Jesus is!
v1-3- Ok, like I've said, John is saying how this is a revelation of Jesus Christ that God gave to him. But (v3), to really benefit from this revelation, we are to listen to it and obey what it says.
Application: When we think about the future, we can walk with confidence, knowing that Christ walks with us.
v4-8- I'm pretty sure we've all heard the verse that goes, "I am the one who is, who always way, and who still is to come"- this is how God is being described! And then Jesus is described as the faithful witness, the first to rise from the dead, and a ruler!
Verses 4-6 are the trinity; you have the father (the one who is, who always was, and who still is to come), the son (Jesus Christ), and the holy spirit (the sevenfold spirit).
In Revelation, the number 7 stands for completion and perfection (more on this later). John was to send this letter to the seven churches- for all Christians.
